Job Title: Program Officer – Youth Governance Program

Location: Based in Nairobi with frequent travel

Reports to: Program Manager

Summary:

The Program Officer for the Youth Governance Program will be responsible for the planning, and implementation of activities aimed at promoting youth participation, engagement, and empowerment in governance processes. The role will involve collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver youth-focused initiatives, projects, and campaigns that contribute to enhancing youth representation, voice, and leadership in decision-making processes.

Responsibilities:

  1. Co-create with stakeholders to develop and implement strategies, action plans, and initiatives to promote youth participation and empowerment in governance as prescribed by the organizational scope.
  2. Support stakeholders in conducting needs assessments, and consultations to identify priority areas, challenges, and opportunities for youth engagement in governance.
  3. Facilitate dialogue, networking, and collaboration among youth groups, community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders to promote inclusive and participatory governance processes.
  4. Provide technical assistance, guidance, and support to youth-led initiatives, community-based organizations, and youth networks working on governance-related issues.
  5. Prepare reports to assess the impact, effectiveness, and outcomes of youth governance interventions.
  6. Maintain effective communication and partnerships with stakeholders including but not limited to implementing partners, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with program objectives and funding requirements.
  7. Contribute to knowledge sharing, documentation, and dissemination of best practices, lessons learned, and success stories related to youth governance programming.
  8. Perform any other duties assigned that is contributing to the realization of the overall objectives and goals of the organization.

Qualifications:

  1. Strong understanding of youth development issues, governance structures, and democratic processes. Experience in working in the youth sector is an added advantage.
  2. Proven track record in designing, implementing, and evaluating youth-focused programs or projects.
  3. Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  4. Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
  5. Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  6. Proficiency in written and spoken Kiswahili and English. Local languages is an added advantage.
  7. Commitment to promoting youth rights, social justice, and inclusive governance.
  8. Bachelor’s degree in related fields including but not limited to International Development, Political Science, Social Sciences, Youth Studies, or related field is an added advantage.
